KINETICART STUDIO.CONFIGURATION

A KineticaRT Studio configuration menu

KineticaRT Studio includes configuration tools that are optimized for the rapid development of display and control applications.

Key features are:

Drag and drop connection of Controls (displays) to Channels (data sources/destinations)
Intuitive placement and sizing of Controls
Configurable Grid - optimized for tiling of Controls
Layout tools - for fast design of functional, pleasing displays
Copy/Paste - for rapid prototyping of displays from predefined Controls
Cut/Paste - for when the design changes
Substitute Channel Collections for initial test with simulated data
Microsoft Visual Studio compatible Sequences - C# or Visual Basic .NET

A more detailed description of the configuration features appears in the KineticaRT Studio User Manual

 CHANNELS
KineticaRT Studio Channel Explorer

Collections of Channels can be added to a KineticaRT Studio project via a KineticaRT.Studio/Channels menu option.

The Channel Explorer shows all the Channel Collections in the tree view on the left where Collections can be expanded to show individual Channels and their current values.

The properties of the Channel selected in the tree view appear on the property display on the right where they can be modified.

A right click menu on the tree provides the following options:

Save changes
Connect/Disconnect data sources
Add Channels
Copy/Paste/Delete Channels
...

Each option is detailed here

For initial integration and test: Channel Collections can be replaced by Collections that provide simulated data, allowing testing without the real system hardware.

 PANELS AND CONTROLS
KineticaRT Studio Control Properties dialog box

Panels have a right click menu that provides the following options:

Enter/Exit Edit Mode - Edit Mode can, if desired, be accessed at runtime.
Save changes
Undo
Add Controls or Components to the Panel
Alignment, stacking and sizing of Controls
Control layout tools (snap/size/align to grid, display order)
Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete
Panel Properties (text, appearance, grid properties...)

Each option is detailed here

The layout tools and configurable grid allows the developer to quickly create screens that are both functional and pleasing. Tiling of controls is particularly easy because of the grid's configurable spacing feature.

Controls can be dragged to reposition or resize. Copy/Paste offers rapid prototyping based on predefined template controls whilst Cut/Paste offers quick rearrangement when customers or users change their minds.

When the Panel containing a Control is in Edit Mode, the Control's Properties dialog box is accessed by double clicking on the Control or via the Control's right click menu, when in edit mode.

 SEQUENCES
Editing a KineticaRT Studio C# Sequence using Microsoft Visual Studio

KineticaRT Studio Sequences are written in either the C# or Visual Basic .NET languages.

New or existing Sequences can be added to a KineticaRT Studio project via a KineticaRT.Studio/Sequence menu option. This menu also provides options for renaming, editing or deleting a Sequence.

KineticaRT Studio does not provide any editors for the Sequence files; you can use Windows Notepad, your favorite text/code editor or the Microsoft Visual Studio editors, which provide color coding and syntax checking.

Opening a file for editing from the KineticaRT.Studio/Sequence menu will open it in the editor configured as the Windows default editor for files with that extension.
