It replaces the previous Windows Forms system which was essentially an update to the Windows programming interface that has been in use since the very first versions of the Windows operating system. WPF brings all the graphical elements and animations found on modern websites to standard Windows applications. Silverlight is a cut down version of WPF designed for use within web browsers and allows use of your application from any location and accessibility from most computers and web browsers, not only Microsoft based ones. Applications written for WPF and Silverlight are developed using the standard .Net development tools, additional tools are available for graphical design, providing for modern animated graphical user interfaces.
