KineticaRT Wind Studio provides supervisory control and data acquisition functions for motor sport wind tunnels.

The software is the result of many years experience of delivering real-time control and monitoring systems to industry and, in recent years, of supplying software for several aerospace and motor sport wind tunnels.

Wind Studio is a pre-configured KineticaRT Studio application. As a result, a customer can tailor the functionality to their exact requirements whilst managing costs and timescale.

We are equally happy to fully understand a customer's requirements and deliver a complete turnkey solution on a fixed price basis to an agreed project plan.

Joint development with a client's software team is another possibility.

INTRODUCTION

Wind Studio addresses the key issues of wind tunnel testing:

	Wind tunnel time is precious: Wind Studio's test setup and analysis features improve productivity.
	Aerodynamicists want to concentrate on improving car performance: Wind Studio includes test setup editors that are quick and easy to use and incorporate automated change logging. In-built "smart" fault monitoring and diagnostic test features allow system problems to be detected early and resolved swiftly, reducing system downtime and the risk of making decisions based on unreliable measurements. Wind Studio supports automated backup of setup and results data to a warm-standby PC, offering fast recovery in the event of computer failure.
	Test requirements evolve rapidly, so the control and data acquisition software needs to be easy and quick to change, often in an impromptu way: Wind Studio is customer configurable and component based.

Although developed for motor sport wind tunnels, Wind Studio can be adapted for use in other automotive and aerospace tunnels.

The KineticaRT Studio product can be configured to meet other control, display and data acquisition requirements and has been used successfully for aerospace and automotive engine test world-wide.

KineticaRT Studio .NET is a rapid application development tool for scalable industrial test automation software.

The main user interface page is shown; via this the user runs the test, monitors the most important wind tunnel parameters, is alerted via warning and error messages and views processed results after each step

Architecture

A typical hardware architecture is shown. The Wind Studio software is a pre-configured KineticaRT Studio application running on Windows NT or XP.

Equipment Interfaces

Wind Studio uses an OPC and XML standards based sub-system interface. Non-standard sub-systems can be adapted with a "shim".

User Interface

Multiple display monitors and configurable KineticaRT pages provide an easy to use but flexible control and monitoring interface.

Test Run Sequencing

Execution of a Test Run is fully automatic. The system sequentially steps through the Ride Map, sending control setpoints to tunnel and model systems.

Monitoring

The system displays live and derived data from tunnel and model sensors; it also displays multi-level priority warning messages.

Results Processing

The system can log mean and standard deviation and, if required, raw logged data arrays. Results processing is user configurable.

System Setup

The functionality of the system is defined by a number of setup files, which are in an open XML format.

Setup Editors

A number of specific editors are provided, making test setup straightforward.

Simulator (Optional)

A simulator for tunnel and model systems is offered to assist in the lifecycle support of the wind tunnel control system.
